Alkalizing Foods

Alkaline foods are foods that raise the amount of oxygen that the blood takes in. The most alkalizing foods are raw green leafy vegetables and non-sweet fruits. The amount of oxygen in your blood is measured on a PH scale:
  • -A PH of 0 is most acidic
  • -a PH of 14 is most alkaline
The body’s blood is in balance when we are slightly alkaline: with a PH of 7.5. Most people in the US and Europe are too acidic: they cannot absorb enough oxygen. That’s why cancer, heart disease, arthritis, diabetics are epidemic.

Acidifying Foods

When nutritionists talk about acid or alkaline forming foods, they refer to the condition of the food after ingested. Acidifying foods are primarily those that are rich in:
  • Proteins
  • Carbohydrates
  • Sugars
  • Fats
As a general rule, the acidifying foods should be kept lower in intake than that of alkalizing foods. This should be a general guideline for what you eat at every meal.

What Are Antioxidants?

Antioxidants are chemical compounds that work to protect the body from cell damage by slowing down oxidation, rendering free radicals harmless. Foods with high antioxidant levels have been shown to have health benefits ranging from anti-aging to improved cardiovascular health. Antioxidants slow down, prevent, and treat degenerative disease.

What's Oxidation?

Oxidation is the loss of electrons. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals. Free radicals can start chain reactions. When chain reactions occur in a cell, it can cause damage or death.

What Are Functional Foods

Functional Foods are part of the continuum of products that individuals may consume to increase their health and/or contribute to reducing their disease burden. Aspen Crunch is made up of functional foods.

What's Considered Organic?

What's Considered a Super food?

“Super food” is a term used to describe food with high phytonutrient content. “Phyto” originates from a Greek word meaning plant. Phytonutrients are organic compounds found in plants and can promote human health.

What Are The Benefits of Raw Foods

Raw foods are foods that are uncooked, unprocessed, and often organic. Raw foods are enzymatically alive, which means these foods have live enzymes within them to help digest 40% to 60% of that particular food. Cooked and processed foods are enzymatically dead, which means there are no live enzymes within that food to help digest.
